This policy applies to Niles Biological, Inc., 9298 Elder Creek Rd, Sacramento, CA 95829, and to this website.

What this website collects

This site has exactly one form, on the contact page. When you submit it, the following fields are transmitted to us and no others:

• Your name — required.
• Email address — required, so we can reply.
• Telephone number — optional.
• School, college or institution — optional.
• Where you are up to — optional, a menu selection.
• Which group — optional, a menu selection.
• The lesson — required, free text.
• Your consent — a required checkbox recording that you agree to be contacted about the enquiry.

The form also contains one hidden field labelled “Website”, positioned off screen. It exists solely to detect automated submissions: a person never sees it or fills it in, and a submission that arrives with it completed is discarded. It collects nothing about you.

Nothing on this form is pre-filled, inferred, purchased or appended from another source. What we receive is what you typed. The submission is delivered to us by email at [email protected], together with the date and time of submission and the hostname of the site it came from. There is no customer database behind this website and no login of any kind.

If you telephone or write to us instead of using the form, we hold whatever you tell us in that conversation for the same purpose.

What a telephone call records

When you telephone us to ask about an item, request a quotation or place an order, we write down what is needed to answer you: your name, the institution you are calling from, a way to reach you back, and the details of what you are asking about.

Where the call becomes an order, we hold the ordinary records a supplier has to hold: the quotation, the purchase order, the delivery address, the packing list, the invoice and the payment record. These are business records rather than a marketing database.

We do not record telephone calls.

Cookies, analytics and advertising tags

This site sets no cookies of its own. There is no session, no preferences store, no consent-banner state and no first-party analytics.

We do not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, LinkedIn Insight, Hotjar, session recording, heatmaps, chat widgets, embedded video, embedded maps or social media buttons. No fonts, stylesheets, scripts or images are fetched from a content delivery network; the two typefaces used here are served from this domain.

Microsoft Advertising Universal Event Tracking (UET) is currently disabled. This site is built to load the Microsoft Advertising UET tag from bat.bing.com when we are running paid search advertising, but it is conditional on a single tag identifier in the site configuration file. While that identifier is unset the tag is not present in the page at all: no script element is written, no queue is created, and no request is made to bat.bing.com. In its present state this website makes zero external network requests of any kind. If that changes, this section changes with it, because it is generated from the same setting.

Server logs. Our web host keeps ordinary server logs, which typically record the IP address, browser and device type, the page requested, the referring page and the time of the request. These are technical records used for security, abuse prevention and troubleshooting, and they are generated by the hosting infrastructure rather than by anything on the page.

Why we hold it, and what we never do with it

We use what you tell us to answer your enquiry, prepare a quotation, fulfil an order, deliver it, invoice it, and meet the record-keeping obligations that come with selling goods.

We do not sell, rent, trade or share your details with anyone for their own marketing. We do not build advertising profiles or audiences from them. We do not add callers to a mailing list for having telephoned. The only third parties who receive anything are the ones who have to: the carrier that delivers your order receives a name and delivery address, our payment processor receives what it needs to take a payment, and our accountants and, where legally required, tax authorities receive the transaction records.

How long we keep it

An enquiry that does not become an order is kept while it is live and for a short period after that in case you come back to it, and then discarded.

Order records — quotations, purchase orders, invoices and payment records — are kept for as long as accounting and tax rules require, which in the United States is ordinarily several years, and are then destroyed.

Server logs are kept for a short operational period by our host and then rotated out.

Your choices

You can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, ask for it to be deleted, and tell us to stop contacting you. The opt-out policy sets out how, and what we are still obliged to keep after a deletion request — a paid invoice, for example, cannot simply be erased.

California residents have specific rights under state privacy law, including the right to know what personal information is collected and the right to request deletion. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, so there is no opt-out of a sale for us to offer. Telephone us to exercise any of these rights.

Children

This site is aimed at teachers, laboratory coordinators and institutional buyers. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from them. Orders are placed by institutions and adults, not by students.
